Production of fruit and vegetables 2025

The statistics describe the production of fruit and vegetables in Denmark. The statistics are part of the coverage of the food industry and its production and are a fulfillment of EU regulation, (EU) 2022/2379 (SAIO). The statistics have been prepared in their current form since 2025. The statistics complement other statistics on vegetable production, including the harvest of cereals, rapeseed and legumes as well as roughage.

Statistical presentation

The statistics are an annual statement of the production of fruit and vegetables in harvested area (hectares) and production (tons). The statistics are compiled by crops. Selected crops are also compiled by organic production form. The statistics are disseminated in News from Statistics Denmark and in the Statbank.

Statistical processing

The figures are collected in an annual questionnaire-based survey among farms that have applied for area support (basic payment) or that have a greenhouse. The statistics are a total count among farms that meet these minimum limits for each crop group. Data is collected annually via a web questionnaire. The collected data is debugged based on consistency rules and yield limits.

Relevance

The statistics illustrate the production of fruit and vegetables and are used by the industry (agriculture and horticulture), researchers, the EU, authorities and for calculating GDP.

Accuracy and reliability

The overall accuracy is considered good. There is no sampling uncertainty, but there may be estimates in the indication of production in weight. A smaller number of responses are imputed. The statistics follow EU standards.

Timeliness and punctuality

The statistics are published no later than May, 5 months after the end of the reference period. The statistics are normally published without delay from the announced date.

Comparability

Similar statistics are compiled among EU member states. The statistics comply with EU regulations and guidelines. There are no other Danish statistics on the subject. Data for the period 2003-2024 have previously been published. However, data collection for the individual crops has only been carried out in selected years, and production figures for the intervening years are therefore based on yield estimates. Harvested area is only included for the years in which data were collected.

Accessibility and clarity
