The results of the study are used, among other things, for the Danish Energy Agency's annual energy statistics and the Ministry of the Environment's assessment of emissions from wood stoves in Denmark. The study is based on a survey sent to a sample of households in Denmark. The study is conducted every two years, and reports dating back to 2009 can be found on the Danish Energy Agency's website. Statistics Denmark carried out the current study in collaboration with the Danish Energy Agency., Statistical presentation, The statistics calculate the number of homes and holiday homes that are entirely or partially heated by wood stoves, etc., and the proportion these homes represent of the total housing stock. Additionally, the total consumption of firewood, etc., corresponding to the year 2023 is calculated. The results are presented as totals and broken down by geography, primary heat sources, wood stove types, and housing types., Read more about statistical presentation, Statistical processing, The firewood survey is a sample-based survey. The interviews were collected via a web-based questionnaire, with approximately 20,000 responses most recently collected. The selected respondents are scaled to a national level using background information from population and housing statistics registers. The results are adjusted for non-responses, and data is error-checked at both micro and macro levels. During data processing, a limited number of responses are corrected due to inconsistencies or obviously incorrect answers. Household use of firewood, wood briquettes, and wood pellets is converted from physical quantities to total energy consumption based on standard values for energy content., Read more about statistical processing, Relevance, The survey was developed with support from a working group with representatives from the Danish Energy Agency and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, who use the results for calculating energy consumption and particle emissions from wood-burning stoves. Additionally, the statistics are of interest to others concerned with energy and the environment. As the survey is new under Statistics Denmark, there is no experience yet with user satisfaction., Read more about relevance, Accuracy and reliability, There will always be errors associated with sample-based and questionnaire-based statistics. The survey framework was reviewed and quality assured before distribution, but it is rare to avoid identifying sources of error afterward. The results of the statistics are compared with previous, relevant studies on wood consumption, etc., and deviations are to be expected due to normal sampling uncertainty, minor differences in data processing, and real changes in the prevalence and consumption patterns regarding heating in private homes and holiday homes., Read more about accuracy and reliability, Timeliness and punctuality, The survey is conducted every two years, and the publication time is two months from late May to late August. It is not possible to assess punctuality as the statistics are new under Statistics Denmark., Read more about timeliness and punctuality, Comparability, The statistics replace previous versions of the Wood Survey, which, at the initiative of the Danish Energy Agency, has generally been conducted every two years, most recently in 2021., Read more about comparability, Accessibility and clarity, The plan is for the statistics to be published every other year in the StatBank under the topic , Energy Consumption, with the title , Firewood and Other Biomass for Heating, and in News from Statistics Denmark on Energy Consumption. The statistics on reported criminal offences date back to 1921. Until 1990, Statistics Denmark received monthly copies of the offence reports from the police for registration. Since 1 January 1990, Statistics Denmark has received data both quarterly and annually from the Central Register of Reported Offences, a register administered by the National Commissioner of the Danish Police., Statistical presentation, The statistics show the number of offences of criminal code and special laws/legislation reported to the police or discovered by the police itself., The statistics on reported criminal offences form part of the Danish System of Criminal Statistics. The System of Criminal Statistics includes data on criminal cases from the reported offences and charges to the convictions plus arrests and imprisonments., Read more about statistical presentation, Statistical processing, The source of the statistics is The Central Register of Reported Criminal Offences - administered by the National Commissioner of the Danish Police. Views and suggestions from key users are taken into consideration in the preparation of the statistics., Read more about relevance, Accuracy and reliability, The accuracy of the statistics on reported criminal offences is considered to be good. The data come from a single administrative register system storing information on all reported crimes. Analyses have shown that approximately 5 percentages of the crimes registered in a calendar year, are committed in an earlier year. Corresponding approximately 5 percentages of all crimes reported committed in a calendar year are not registered until a following year. The statistics do not include information on the hidden criminality, i.e. committed criminal offences not reported to the police., Read more about accuracy and reliability, Timeliness and punctuality, The publishing time for the statistics is about 2 months. In the material flow accounts, the weight of the materials used in the country's economy as a whole is calculated. Additionally, the total amount of resources globally extracted to produce the materials and goods used in the economy is estimated using raw material equivalents. Material flow accounts measured by weight have been compiled since 2014 and contain published data from 1993 onwards. Material flow accounts measured in raw material equivalents are available from 2008 onwards., Statistical presentation, The material flow accounts are an annual report on the weight of Danish resource extraction, as well as the import and export of goods and natural resources distributed by material types, while the raw material equivalents indicate the amount of raw materials globally used to produce the goods included in the material flow accounts. In both accounts, three derived indicators are also calculated, namely direct material input, domestic material consumption, and physical trade balance. Raw material equivalents are also calculated for imported and exported goods and services., Read more about statistical presentation, Statistical processing, The EW-MFA and the RME are compiled on the basis of internal sources on resource extraction, import and export The RME account is based on modelling. , Read more about statistical processing, Relevance, The Material Flow Accounts and raw material equivalents are relevant for anyone seeking information on the relationship between the economy and the use of natural resources. The results are pertinent for analyses of sustainable resource consumption, as domestic material consumption serves as an indicator for two of the UN's sustainability goals. The accounts are requested by ministries, agencies, consulting firms, among others. The accounts are part of the European environmental economic accounts collected by Eurostat., Read more about relevance, Accuracy and reliability, The overall Material Flow Accounts are based on a range of well-established official statistics. However, the information about the weight of different material types relies in some cases on conversion factors from other units, introducing uncertainty. Additionally, the raw material equivalents are based on a relatively new calculation method involving model calculations and a wide range of assumptions and estimates. Consequently, these figures are associated with greater uncertainty and primarily express orders of magnitude., Read more about accuracy and reliability, Timeliness and punctuality, The statistics are published three years and three months after the end of the reference period. The statistics are typically published without delays compared to the planned timing., Read more about timeliness and punctuality, Comparability, The Material Flow Account follows the UN's standard for environmental economic accounts, the System of Environmental Economic Accounting (SEEA). It makes it a little difficult to be sure on the representatively on the prices followed. Concerning input prices based on general price statistics, the situation in agriculture are maybe not fully reflected. Some indices on volumes are indirectly measured based on values and price indices. This method can lead to inaccuracy. The declaration on content on Economic Account for Agriculture and these on animal production includes more information on possible inaccuracy. Because of the very different picture of sources, margins of statistical errors can not be calculated. However, for main output products, i.e. milk and meat, the coverage and accuracy are close to 100 per cent.
