Definition

The Forest Statistics contribute to increased knowledge about forests and their use. They also enable more advanced analyses and research. The statistics form part of the basis for international reporting to, among others, the EU and FAO, and data from the statistics are also included in climate reporting. The figures can furthermore be used as part of the basis for discussions between policymakers and stakeholders about the future development of forests.

Since 2024, the Danish Agency for Green Transition and Aquatic Environment has been responsible for the general monitoring of forests. This task was previously carried out by the University of Copenhagen – Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management (IGN).

The next Forest Statistics are expected to be published at the end of 2026.
